Richard D. Scipione, 74 of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Sunday November 1, 2015 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. Born in Johnstown, PA he was the son of the late Patsy and Geraldine (Toscani) Scipione.
Richard moved to the Niagara Falls area as a child with his family. He attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School, and later attended Erie County Community College. On June 20, 1970, he married Betty (Stamm) Scipione at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls. In 1968 Richard and his brother Larry purchased Mr. Fratello's Meat Market located on Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls, and established Scipione Brothers Meat Market. His family continues to operate the business today as Scipione Catering. Richard had a passion for golf. He was a classic car enthusiast, and especially loved his antique Ford Thunderbird. In his younger years, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Over the recent years, Richard enjoyed spending the winter months in Punta Gorda, Florida.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, Richard is survived by his two sons, Richard (Debbie) Scipione of Oklahoma City, OK and David (Jeanine) Scipione of Lewiston, NY, five grandchildren, Brandan Grier, Nicholas Scipione, Christopher Scipione, Dylan Scipione and Addisyn Scipione, one great-grandchild Atoli Grier, his sister, Patricia (David) Brown of Spartanburg, SC, his nieces and nephews; Larry Scipione, Geri-Lynn Scipione, Robert Scipione, Michael Sharpe and Shelby Brown, his sister-in-law, Linda (Tom) Siuta, as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his brother Larry Scipione.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday November 5th at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 27th Street and Independence Ave. Niagara Falls with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
