Obituary

Richard Anthony Silvey, 84, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on January 5, 2015 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Rose (Rufran) Silvey.

Richard attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Navy Reserves until his honorable discharge. Richard later attended Canisus College in Buffalo, NY and earned a Bachelor's Degree in History. Richard owned and operated Sunnycrest Dairy, founded by his father, Thomas, in Niagara Falls, NY, where they specialized in the sale and distribution of dairy products throughout the community.

Mr. Silvey was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He was also a dedicated 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #247. In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed tending to his garden, cooking and wine making. He also loved to travel, hunt and was an avid golfer.

Richard is survived by his sister, Betty (John) Zullo of New Jersey; one brother, Thomas Silvey of Niagara Falls, NY; his nieces and nephews, Thomas (Cynthia) Centofanti, Jean Calabrese, Rosemary (Jeffrey) Randolph, John (Kathy) Zullo, Jr., Mary Centofanti and Robert (Kelly) Zullo; six great nephews, four great nieces and four great-great nephews. Mr. Silvey was predeceased by one sister, Mildred (late Albert) Centofanti, two nephews, Fred Zullo and Albert (Marilyn of Florida) Centofanti; one niece, Margaret (late Michael) Piecuil, as well as his longtime friend Irene Newton.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8th from 3 – 7 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where the Knights of Columbus #247 will conduct a prayer service at 5:30 P.M. Family and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 9th at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S., officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301.
