Robert M. Calvano, 86, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2015 at Elderwood Health Care at Wedgewood in Amherst, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Annunziato Calvano and Carolina (Fucile) Calvano.
Robert attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational High School. During the Korean War he served in the United States Army Signal Corp. as a Sergeant until his honorable discharge on October 1, 1956. Following his discharge, he married Lily (Cheers) Calvano, who later predeceased him on May 9, 1981. Robert was employed by the New York Telephone Company as a line repair man for 30 years until his retirement in the late 1980's. Mr. Calvano was a member of the American Legion LaSalle Post #1142. He also served as a volunteer information guide receptionist at the Niagara Aerospace Museum in Niagara Falls, NY.
Mr. Calvano is survived by his two step-children, John (Karen) Mameli of Naples, FL and Vincent Mameli of Niagara Falls, NY; one sister, Rita (late Frank) Petock of Wheatfield, NY; his niece and caretaker, Irene L. (late John) Costanzo of Grand Island, NY, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Emma (late Anthony) Loria, Gilda "Jay" (late Peter) Arico, Teresa (Guiliando) Rossi; and two brothers, Louis (late Beverly) Calvano and Arthur Calvano.
There will be no prior visitation. Private services and interment in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY will be held at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial donations may be made to St. Luke's Mission of Mercy, P.O. Box 448, Buffalo, NY 14215.
