Robert E. Emmens, Sr., 77, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away Saturday February 22, 2014 at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Lester and Marie (Bergey) Emmens.
Robert attended local schools and the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. In October 1958, he married Darya (LaValley) Emmens in Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He began working on the Niagara Power Project and Union Carbide, both in Niagara Falls. Robert later worked for many years as an engineer with Airco-Speer in Niagara Falls, NY until his retirement. Following retirement he worked as a consultant at Buffalo Batt. Robert and his wife enjoyed antiquing and operated a booth at Antique World in Clarence, NY and Salamanca, NY. They also enjoyed their many trips in their motor home searching out antiques and other items. Robert also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and working in the garden. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of fifty-five years, he is survived by three children Lori (Jack) Cotton of Niagara Falls, NY, Robert E. "Bob" (Bonnie) Emmens, Jr. of Wheatfield, NY, and Alisa (Paul) Bender of Akron, NY; six grandchildren, Nicole (Justin) Smith, Sean Polley, Jenna Cotton, Korey Emmens, Tiara Bender and Mikaela Bender; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Hale and Jadin Polley; a sister, Katherine (John) Hope of Ransomville, NY. He was the brother-in-law of Lee (Jane) LaValley and Victoria (Gary) Davis, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday February 27th at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Rd. Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson, officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Private interment in Acacia Park Cemetery, North Tonawanda, NY. If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
