Roland B. "Junie" Bird, 82, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away Saturday April 3, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and while under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was the son of the late Roland A. and Martha (Roblee) Bird. On July 20, 1952 he married Ida L. (Capizzi) Bird in Bradford, PA. Mrs. Bird predeceased him on July 6, 2006.
Roland, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, attended local schools and worked as a pipefitter for over 35 years at E.I. DuPont in Niagara Falls until his retirement in 1985. During the Korean War he served in the United States Army / Air Force. Roland was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge. He also enjoyed golf and was also an avid bowler in various men's leagues and mixed double leagues. Roland enjoyed camping at Lazy Lakes in Cambria, NY where he also worked in security and also as an activities coordinator. He enjoyed fishing and enjoyed teaching many children how to fish. No matter how busy he was, Roland's first love was his family.
Survivors include his children, Patricia Pino of Lewiston, NY, Roland (Kathy) Bird, Jr. and Bruce Bird, both of California, June Bird (Gerald Biro) of Niagara Falls, NY, and was predeceased by his daughter Linda D'Angelo. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Lynn Pino, James (Lisa) Pino, Joseph (Melissa) D'Angelo, Maria D'Angelo, Jeremy Biro, Bruce Bird, Jr, Eddie Bird; four great-grandchildren Brandon Johns, Dominic Pino, Jillian Pino, and Gianna D'Angelo; his brother Arthur (Ann) Bird of Bergholz, NY; his sister Martha (late Marlow) Pearson of Niagara Falls, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers David (late Ethel) Bird and Ralph Bird.
Visitation on Monday and Tuesday 2 – 7 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held Wednesday April 7th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Brad Delp, officiating. Interment with military honors in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
