Obituary

97-Year Old Rose (Critelli) Catalano passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3 rd 2017 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility. Born in Cold Spring, NY on September 6, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John and Madeline (Gigliotti) Critelli.

Rose was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Mario, who she married on March 19, 1946, in Niagara Falls, New York; she was also predeceased by two grandchildren, Kerrie Marie Aiduk and John Patrick Salamone.  Mrs. Catalano is survived by three children, Katherine Argy of Lewiston, New York, Madeline (Ronald) Reed of Indian Trail, North Carolina, and her son John Catalano "Tom Darro" (Ann Marie) of Niagara Falls, NY; grandchildren, Mary Jo (Dr. John) Coniglio of Rochester, New York, Jeri Ann (Dr. Mark) Del Monte of Lewiston, New York, Michael (Candace) Salamone, Dr. Michelle (Dr. Steven) Cataline, Catherine (Roland) Sauer, all of Charlotte, North Carolina & Thomas (Dori) Salamone, of Virginia and step-granddaughter Ellen Hayes of Grand Island; 14 great-grandchildren, Dr. Andrew (Amanda) of North Carolina, John esq, Katherine Rose Coniglio of Rochester, New York, Sydney (Corrin), Mark and Mathew Del Monte of Niagara Falls and Lewiston, New York, John Michael, Annabella Salamone of North Carolina, Alexander, Aidan, Anna Salamone of New Jersey, Thomas, Olivia Rose, Daniel Salamone of Virginia; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by one sister, Josephine Gallio (Late Edward), sister in law, Mary Lou Critelli of Tampa, Florida. Rose was predeceased by four brothers, William Critelli, Joseph Critelli Sr. (Martha), James Critelli (Mary) of Beacon, NY and Ralph Critelli of Tampa Florida, and two sisters, Mary Meranto (Nicholas) and Lena Whitehead (Albert) of Niagara Falls, New York.

With her Husband Mario she operated the R & M poultry market in the City Market until 1953.  Rose also worked for the former Mar-Kay Children's fashion shop on Pine Avenue, later she was a Gray Lady as a volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.  Also, Rose was a women's sports ware buyer and sales representative at the former Biers Department store in Niagara Falls.  Her heart was in her final job, working for Hanci as a Foster Grandparent at NFMMC, which she did for over 20 years beginning in 1982.  She still enjoyed the company of the women she worked with at lunch once a month.

The family would like to thank the members of the staff of Schoellkopf and Niagara Hospice for their profound dedication to Rose during her stay at the Schoellkopf Facility, over the past several months.  Their efforts made her comfortable and well cared for during her stay.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6 th from 3 – 7 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Rose's name be made to either Niagara Hospice or Schoellkopf Health Care Facility.
