Rose (Giancola) Bonaro SFO, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Friday August 28, 2009 at N.F. Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Constantino and Mary (Zaccarella) Giancola.
Rose was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. She attended local schools including the former 17th Street Elementary School, Gaskill Jr. High School and Niagara Falls High School where she graduated in 1948 and remained active as a member of the reunion committee. On June 11, 1949 she married the love of her Johnny Bonaro at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Bonaro predeceased her on March 9, 1975. Rose worked in the printshop at Niagara University for thirty years and was the recipient of the Vincentian Mission Award in 1992. She was a devout Catholic and attended Mass daily in the Niagara University Alumni Chapel where she served as a lay reader and ecumenical minister. She was also an active member of the St. Francis Order where she made many loving and dear friends and was a spiritual leader to all she came in contact with. Rose was loved by all. She was best known for her cooking and taking loving care of her entire family. Anyone who entered her home always left calling her nana and will remember her as a gentle and kind woman.
Rose is survived by one son Anthony (Valerie) Bonaro, one daughter Joni (James) Fernandez and was predeceased by two daughters Rory Burke and Linda (Dennis Ferraro of Niagara Falls, NY) Bonaro Ferraro and one great granddaughter Gianna Carr. Survivors also include thirteen grandchildren three of whom she raised Daniel (Lisa) Burke, Lisa (Gian) Giandomenico and Christopher Burke; John (Cheryl) Bonaro, Miriam (Joseph) Amatangelo, Michael Bonaro, David Bonaro, Rory Starr Carr, Rose (Rocco) Ferraro-Casero, Mary-Elizabeth Ferraro, James Fernandez, Angelina Fernandez and Louis Fernandez, one brother Angelo (late Dorothy) Giancola of Las Vegas, NV. She was the sister-in-law of Mary (late Leo) Chick of Niagara Falls, NY and the late Gina (Fred of Santana, CA) Rannalli, Lillian (late Joseph) Genova, Eva (late Joseph) Conti and she is also survived by twelve great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
Friends may call on Monday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday September 1st at 9:00 a.m. in Niagara University Alumni Chapel, 5795 Lewiston Road, Niagara University NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.
