Rose Sykes-Principe, 99, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Watertown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Jennie (Monaco) Verne.
Rose was raised in Watertown, NY where she married Peter Sykes in 1946. Together they moved to Niagara Falls, NY and she began working at the Carborundum Company for over 32 years prior to retiring. Following her retirement in 1983, Rose stayed active while working part time at Macy's and the Comfort Inn.
Rose enjoyed bowling, exercising and ball room dancing. She also loved tending to her garden, shopping, traveling and going to the Casino. In addition, she was a member of the Riflettes at the LaSalle Sportsman Club for several years. Above all, Rose especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Rose was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Sykes in 1997; and later by her second husband, Dr. Joseph Principe in 2003. She is survived by her children, Gary (Cynthia) Sykes and Carol (Stanley) Daily; her grandchildren, Garrett Sykes, Michael (Amber) Carpenter and Shanna Sykes; her great-grandchildren, Logan Hill, Bryson Palone, Olivia Carpenter and MacKenzie Carpenter; one sister, Alice (Gary) Gardner, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Hank Verne, Angie Ward, Rita Verne, Joe Verne, Anthony Verne, Jr., Arleen Toutant and Robert Verne.
The family wishes to send their appreciation and gratitude to Niagara Hospice for their kindness and attention to providing dignity to Rose and their family.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 2 from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Rose's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 12 Noon in St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment will be held privately in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
