Rose M. Virtuoso, of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Thursday June 21, 2012. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Angelina (Ranalli) Virtuoso.
Rose was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. She has been the secretary in the family business, Virtuoso Building Company, Inc. in Niagara Falls, NY, for the last 76 years.
Rose was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church and their Senior Society, past president of the Professional Women's Business Association, member and former treasurer with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council #247, member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America Cataract Lodge #240 and the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine Rosary Club. She also formerly served on the board for the Golden Agers affiliated with HANCI.
During World War II, Rose volunteered at the American Red Cross Blood Bank and more recently volunteered with the Niagara Falls Festival of Lights, Lewiston Artpark, St. Francis Guild, and the gift shop at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY.
Rose enjoyed playing bocce, both indoors and outdoors, in various leagues in Niagara Falls and Lockport. Last year her mixed league team won the championship. She also was an avid bowler and participated in ladies night lawn bowling in Niagara Falls, NY.
Rose was also an ardent supporter of the Niagara University basketball team and was a season ticket holder for more than forty years. One of her favorite pastimes was going to the casino every week with her sister Adeline and niece Lorraine.
Rose is survived by one sister ,Adeline Kilkenny of Niagara Falls, NY; one brother Armand (Connie) Virtuoso of Henderson, NV; her nieces and nephews, Gene (Elizabeth) Virtuoso, Carl (Cindy) Virtuoso, AnnMarie Virtuoso, Priscilla (David) Turnquist, Tom (Susan) Virtuoso, Olivia Virtuoso, Lorraine Virtuoso, Anthony (Waverly) Virtuoso, Kenneth (Andrea) Virtuoso, John (Catherine) Virtuoso, Linda (Daniel) Destino, Guido (Sylvia) Virtuoso, Carol (Ken) Witmer, Robert (Lana) Virtuoso, Armand (Rosemary) Virtuoso, Dennis (Gina) Virtuoso and Joseph (Carol) Virtuoso. Rose was mother to all of her nieces and nephews as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. She is also survived by several cousins.
Rose was also predeceased by six brothers, Alfred (late Frances) Virtuoso, G. Thomas 'Guady' (late Laura) Virtuoso, Anthony (late Victoria) Virtuoso, Guido (late Elia) Virtuoso, Octavio (late Mary) Virtuoso and George Virtuoso and one nephew Alfred (Julie) Virtuoso.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday June 25th at 11:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek, officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph Church Restoration Fund, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301.
