Roy Betton, 89, of Grand Island, NY, transitioned to his heavenly home on April 23, 2026, at Elderwood of Grand Island. Born in Luverne, AL, he was the beloved son of the late Otto and Leola (Roper) Betton. He was raised in Montgomery, AL, where he attended local schools before moving to Niagara Falls, NY, in the early 1950s.
On November 1, 1958, Roy married the love of his life, Lenice (Coates) Betton, at Mount Erie Baptist Church, beginning a devoted union that remained the center of his life.
Roy worked on the Niagara Power Project before beginning an extensive career as a truck driver. Over the years, he drove for Taibi, Sevenson, and later retired from Empire Concrete after many dedicated years of service. He was also a proud and longtime member of the Teamsters Local 449 Union.
A man of deep faith, Roy was a longtime deacon and treasurer at New Jerusalem Revival Center, where he first began his service as an usher. His steady presence, integrity, and devotion to God made him a pillar of the church community.
Roy was well known throughout the region as an avid drag racer, affectionately recognized by many as “The Weasel ” He loved traveling, staying active, and spending time with his beloved family, who brought him his greatest joy.
He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his strong work ethic and his love for people.
In addition to his wife, Lenice, he is survived by his children, Vanessa Clay, Christopher A. (Verlinda) Betton, Diane Betton and Daphne Betton; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Lucille Campbell, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Lorenza Betton, Willie James “B” Betton, LeRoy Betton, John Betton, Lode Betton, Wilbert Betton, Daisy Lee (Betton) May and Minne Lee (Betton) Searight.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 2 from 10 – 11 AM at New Jerusalem Revival Center 2723 20th street, Niagara Falls, NY, 14305, where homegoing sevices will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
