Salvatore LaScala, 65, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Friday September 28, 2012 in Niagara Falls. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Dominic and Grace (Plumeri) LaScala, longtime residents of Niagara Falls, NY.
Sal was a lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1964. He later attended Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, Syracuse University and Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH. During the Vietnam War he served in the U.S. Army until being wounded and airlifted to a Japanese hospital where he underwent several surgeries and spent many months recovering before returning to the United States after being honorably discharged in 1966. Sal was a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service in Niagara Falls, NY and retired in October of 2006 after 26 years of service. Everyone who knew Sal would agree that his greatest legacy was laughter. He was a comedian with an audience wherever he went. He didn't need a stage or a gimmick; he relied only on a clever wit and perfect timing. Sal's home was filled with great music and his home cooking particularly his Italian sauce which he cooked better than his sisters. He spent hours challenging chess players around the globe through the Internet. Sal has been described as a brilliant eccentric, well read and highly creative. He will be deeply missed by his entire family who will always love him.
Sal leaves four sisters Roseanne Garriss, Marguerite (Ernest) Stenquist, Karen Dupre and Barbara (Larry) Lodl all of Colorado; one brother Vincent LaScala of New York, NY. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout the country.
Visitation will be on Saturday October 6th from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON FUNERAL CHAPEL, 468 19TH STREET, NIAGARA FALLS, NY followed by a prayer service at 12 noon. Burial with military honors will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Memorial offerings may be made to American Heart Association, P.O.
