Salvatore J. "Sam" Palermo, 99, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2019 at his residence.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Gallina) Palermo.

Sam served in the United States Army during World War II, from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945. On November 4, 1947, he married his beloved wife, Mary Palermo at St. Joseph Church. Mrs. Palermo passed away on July 6, 2007.

Sam was the proprietor of Palermo's Chicken Market until 1972.  In addition, Sam was employed as a driver for Walker's Laundry for 18 years, retiring in 1983.  He was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church, where he also ran the Outreach Program for many years.

In his free time, Sam enjoyed playing cards with his pinochle friends, eating sweets, as well as fixing items around the house, and helping relatives and friends. Above all, Mr. Palermo loved to spend time with his family and prayed for everyone.  He knew how to put a smile on everyone's face and will be greatly missed.

Sam is survived by his children, Sal (Linda) Palermo Jr., Danny Palermo, and Teresa (Gordon) Slipko; his grandchildren, Martine, Marina, Mara, Marli, Nicole and Natalie; eight great-grandchildren; his siblings, Marion (Frank) Dashineau and Joan North, his best friend Larry Renda; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two siblings, Joseph (Patricia) Palermo and Josephine (Paul) Rosenbaum.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 19 from 3 – 8 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Sam's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Please assemble at church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to St. Joseph Outreach, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY.
