Sam D. Gara, 81, of Lewiston passed away peacefully on Monday May 28, 2018 at home. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Dominic and Angeline (Archie) Gara.

Mr. Gara lived all of his life in the area and graduated from Niagara Falls High School.  He served for the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on August of 1962.  Sam was married to Nancy (Spendio) Gara for forty years.  Nancy predeceased Sam on May 28, 2013.

Sam owned and operated Gara Travel Agency and primarily arranged junkets to Atlantic City, Trump Plaza and Trump Marina.  Sam also owned and operated several restaurants and operated the Three Coins of Tonawanda.  Sam was a great cook and had a passion to entertain. Above all, his love was spending time with his family and dear friends.

Sam is survived by his children, Judy (Chris) Finitz, Sam (Marisa) Gara, Jr, Donna (Tim) Hoolihan, David Gara, Lisa (Ron) Nicoletti and Dina Gara.  Grandfather of Christopher (Allison) Finitz, Carly Finitz, Gabrielle and Alyssa Gara, John (Stacey) Hoolihan, Karilyn (Bobby) Argy, Alexa, Olivia and Marco Nicoletti; Great-Grandfather of Geoffrey Finitz. Brother of Anthony (Dorothy) Gara and Rose (Victor) Muto. Brother in law of Dotty Gara. Sam is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.   In addition to his parents and wife, Sam was predeceased by his brother Frank Gara and Sister and brother in law Mary (Walter) Grochowina.

Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 31 ^st from 4 – 8 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS where funeral services will begin on Friday at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 1st at 12:00 Noon in St. Vincent de Paul Parish at St. Leo's Church 2748 Military Road Niagara Falls, NY.  Entombment will follow in Riverdale Cemetery.  Please visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
