Sam S. Militello, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025 at Comprehensive Rehab and Nursing Center in Williamsville, NY.  Born in Cerda, Sicily, Italy, Sam was the son of the late Joseph and Tomasina (Bellina) Militello.

Sam immigrated to the United States at the age of 11 with his family, eventually settling in Niagara Falls where he would spend the rest of his life devoted to education, family, and service.

Sam attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Education from Buffalo State College and a Master's degree in Education from Niagara University. From 1964 to 1966, he proudly served in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge.

On December 17, 1966, Sam married Julia M. (Valery) Militello at St. Leo's Church in Niagara Falls. Together, they shared nearly 59 years of marriage, building a life centered around love, faith, and family.

Sam dedicated 44 years to teaching 4th and 5th grade in the Niagara-Wheatfield School District, retiring in 2001. He was a quiet, loving man known for his strong work ethic and gentle spirit. He found joy in gardening—especially growing vegetables—cooking, and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Comprehensive Rehab and Nursing Center for the compassion and care shown to Sam and his family during his time there.

In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, Sam is survived by his children, Valerie (Hon. James) Faso, John Militello, and Maria Militello; grandchildren, Cristina Faso, Mia (Dr. Richard) Jenkins, Roman Militello, and Camilla Militello; great-grandchildren, Mariposa, Dove, and Capri; and siblings, Francesca "Fran" (Roy) Owens, Maria "Mary" (Jack) Ormsby, and Genoveffa "Janet" Leone. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Militello, and an infant sister, Ida, in Italy.

A private celebration of Sam's life and entombment with Military Honors will be held at the convenience of the family at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston, NY.  If desired, memorial offerings may be made to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Foundation at https://www.alz.org/alzheimers-dementia.  Arrangements by M.J.
