Samuel L. Archie, 93 of Lewiston, NY passed away on January 20, 2017 at Northgate Health Care Facility. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Dominic and Mary (Messineo) Archie.
Sam was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area and attended local schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was involved in the campaigns of Central Burma, China and India. He was honorably discharged on December 22, 1945 and awarded a Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars and Good Conduct Ribbon. Sam was employed as a supervisor and manager for TOPS Markets in Niagara Falls, and later went on to co-own TOPS Markets in Amherst, NY. Sam was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with family and friends. In his later years, he also took great pleasure in going out for breakfast every morning.
Mr. Archie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Florence A. (Valente) Archie, four children, Nancy (Quentin) Farmer, Lawrence Archie, Christine (Tom) Urbaniak and Lisa (Tom) Bickelman, 6 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Mamie (Elwood) Channell and was the brother-in-law of, Mary (late Anthony) Piccirillo, Min (late Anthony) Yamonaco and Francis (late Rita) Valente.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. Entombment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
