Samuel J. Sauro, 64, of Lewiston, NY passed away on Thursday April 9, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Batavia, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Carl and Marianne K. "Anne" (Minicucci) Sauro.

Samuel attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On October 21, 1969, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. While serving in Vietnam as a highly accurate scout sniper with the 1st Marine Division, he was seriously injured by an enemy explosive device. Sam was honorably discharged as a Corporal, and awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service, a Purple Heart, Combat Action Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnamese Service and Campaign Medal. In 1980 he moved to California where he lived until returning to the Niagara Falls area in 2011. Sam worked as a self employed ceramic tile worker. He was an avid golfer and had a passion for animals. He also had a love for music and was a gifted artist. But most of all, Sam loved to cook and entertain family and friends in his home.

Samuel was predeceased by his wife of twenty five years Patricia Sauro in 2010. He is survived by his two children, Samantha Sauro and Anthony Sauro both of Denver, CO; two step-children Chris (Katie) Ragan and Jason (Theresa) Ragan both of Denver, CO; two sisters, Carol (Delvan) Thornton of Niagara Falls, NY and Debra J. Sauro of Lewiston, NY as well as several nieces and nephews.

Sammy's family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Michele Noblin, Frank Linza and the many friends who provided care and brought joy to Sammy's life.

Visitation will be held on Sunday April 19th from 1 – 3 p.m. at the
M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. with Robert Fink officiating.
