Sarah J. (Ricotta) Soluri, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on March 16, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late James and Louise (Scamacca) Ricotta.
Sarah was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. She attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. During the early 1940's she worked in the Production Department of Nabisco Shredded Wheat in Niagara Falls. On September 12, 1945 she married John A. Soluri at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Soluri predeceased her on December 27, 1982.
Sarah was a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society and a dedicated member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America (I.S.D.A.) Power City Lodge #158 as well as serving as their Treasurer, Secretary and Delegate of the National Convention. She was also a member of the Women's Postal Auxiliary and Socialites. Sarah enjoyed bowling and bocce, and participated in various local leagues. She also loved traveling and was especially proud of her trips to Rome where she met the late Pope John Paul II and received a Papal Blessing twice. Sarah was also an exceptional cook and loved spending time with her family and friends.
Sarah is survived by her two children, Judith M. (Salvatore) Cirifalco of Niagara Falls and James J. (Theresa) Soluri of Wheatfield; three grandchildren, Lori Anne (Daniel) Russell, Dana Camille Soluri and Jonathan James Soluri; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Ryan Russell; two sisters, Mary (late Antone) Martello and Isabel (late Vincent) Caterina both of Niagara Fall, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by one sister Grace (late Armand) Caterina.
Sarah's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence for the compassionate care she received.
Visitation will be on Friday from 3-7 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church 2748 Military Road Niagara Falls. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
