Saverio"Joe" Mallimo, 83, of Lewiston, NY, died on Friday February 10, 2012 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Ozone Park, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Esposito) Mallimo.

Saverio graduated from Far Rockaway High School in New York City and during the Korean War he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant with the 809th Air Police Squadron. On April 24, 1954 he married Anita (Baldassarre) Mallimo in St. Cecelia's Church, Clearwater, FL. Saverio was employed by General Motors Harrison Radiator Plant in Lockport, NY until retiring in 1998. Prior to that he worked as a carpenter for twenty years with Carpenter's Local #280 also in Lockport, NY and maintained his membership with them for fifty years. Saverio was a member of St. Peter's Church in Lewiston as well as their Holy Name Society. In his younger years, he was an avid athlete and at one time played semi professional baseball for the Tampa Bay Smokers, the farm team for the Philadelphia Phillies.

A well known figure on Center Street in the Village of Lewiston, Saverio was a regular patron of the Orange Cat and Village Bake Shop. He enjoyed traveling worldwide and especially going to Italy where his lifelong dream was to one day live in Florence, Italy.

In addition to his wife of fifty seven years Mr. Mallimo is survived by two daughters Rita (Jeffrey) Schultz of Binghamton, NY and Joanne (Shaun) O'Leary of Lewiston, NY; three grandchildren Daniel (Dr. Linn Tonstad) Schultz, Andrew Schultz and Declan O'Leary, two sisters Concetta Savoca of Long Island, NY and Mary Pallavicini of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister Theresa Mallimo and one brother Frank Mallimo.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday February 18th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY with Rev. Michael Zuffoletto officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
