Sharon M. "Sherry" (McNally) Rivers, 69, of the Town of Niagara died after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday September 27, 2010 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Jack and Eleanor (Halpin) McNally.
Sherry, as she was known to family and friends, was a lifelong resident of the Town of Niagara and attended local schools. She graduated from the former LaSalle Senior High School in 1958 and later attended Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, NY. She was employed by the Niagara Falls Board of Education as a teacher's assistant at Henry J. Kalfas Elementary School. Sherry touched the lives of many students and teachers alike. A lover of music and the arts, she was also a longtime volunteer at Artpark in Lewiston, NY and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Sherry was an advocate of raising cancer awareness in her community through her active participation in the Lewiston Niagara Relay for Life. She had a great love for her Irish heritage and was a true American Patriot.
Sherry is survived by her husband of forty nine years Edward L. Rivers, four children Keith Rivers, Kevin Rivers, Denise (David) Rey and Dana Rivers, two granddaughters Sarah Universal and Samantha Rivers, four brothers Richard (Lorraine) McNally, Jack (Judy) McNally, Roger (Diane) McNally, Gary McNally, and one sister Debbie Bedard. She was predeceased by her sister Patricia McNally and brother Leon McNally. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, many loving friends, and her beautiful kitties.
As per Sherry's request, there will be no prior visitation.
