Obituary

Shirley A. Carter, 82, of Wheatfield NY, passed away Wednesday, January, 16 th , 2019 under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Wellsville, NY she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Judd.

Shirley graduated from Tonawanda High School in 1955 and attended Buffalo State College. She worked part-time for Union Carbide before going back to work fulltime for the Scharr Jewelry Corp. She managed the jewelry department of several Ames Stores before becoming a regional manager for the Northeast. Shirley then managed the Jaccards jewelry store in the Summit Park Mall for years. In 1982 Shirley opened her own store, DeRivier Jewelers, in Lewiston, NY and operated it until its closing in 2017.

Shirley loved her trips to NYC for jewelry trade shows, shopping and Broadway shows. She loved spending time at St. Patty's Cathedral.

Her grandchildren will always remember the sleepovers. Staying up too late watching movies with popcorn and camped out on the living room floor. Christmas was always "over the top" at granny's house. She liked to treat the kids to Disney on Ice.... complete with a limo ride.

Shirley was married to her husband Rog for 54 years before his passing in 2011.

Shirley is survived by her children, Thomas (Annette) of Bliss, NY, Lisa (Mark) Mineweaser of Pendelton, NY, her grandchildren, Adrienne, Steven, Amy (Nick) Hollar, Christine and Thomas; her great-grandchildren Julian, Mason, Parker and Brady; and one sister Brenda (Roger) Killian of Kenmore, NY.

There will be no prior visitation. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport NY 14094. Arrangements by M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls.
