Simon R. Zambotti, 76, of Niagara Falls passed away on Good Samaritans Day, Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Niagara Hospice House. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Lino and Mary (Yannes) Zambotti.
Simon was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School in 1958. Simon served in Cold War Germany with the United States Army until his honorable discharge on August 4, 1965. Simon worked as a union carpenter for Sicoli and Massaro Construction Co. in Niagara Falls. In 1968 Simon became a firefighter for the City of Niagara Falls serving most of his career with Truck #1 at the Tenth Street Station until his retirement as a Battalion Chief in 2000.
Simon was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church where he also served as an usher, Eucharistic minister and as a member of the parish council. During his years as a firefighter he was the recipient of the Levy Brothers Award for Bravery in 1977 for saving a man's life in a fire on East Falls Street. He was also responsible for establishing an EAP "Employee Assistance Program" for his fellow firefighters. Above all, Simon will be remembered for his adoration for his family especially his nieces and nephews, and how much he loved helping others any way he could.
Simon is survived by the love of his life, Gail Andres, one sister Eda (Neil) Scrinzi of Youngstown, NY; one brother Stephen (Rose) Zambotti of Niagara Falls, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Albert (Raymonde of Niagara Falls) Zambotti and Carl (Shirley of Georgia) Zambotti.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 15th at 10 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
