Stephen J. (Steve) Palmeri, 94, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on October 26, 2017 at Buffalo General Hospital. Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Philip and Josephine (Lorito) Palmeri.
Steve was raised and educated in Carbondale, PA and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1941. He moved to the Niagara Falls area in 1942 where he has resided until the present time. Steve served in the United States Army during World War II as a medic with the 1
st
Infantry Division in the European Theatre from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On August 19, 1950 he married Jean C. (Begolo) Palmeri at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. Mrs. Palmeri predeceased him on June 6, 2016. For 35 years, Steve worked as a chemical operator at the former Oldbury Chemical Company, later known as Hooker and Occidental Chemical Company retiring in 1981. Most notably, Steve along with his wife Jean owned and operated Steve and Jean's Bar originating on Niagara Street in 1966 and later moving to Pine Avenue until 2006. Steve was a passionate DIRTCar/NASCAR racing fan as well as NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan. Above all, he made his family the center of his life, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Palmeri is survived by his three children, Philip D. Palmeri, Stephen (Tracy) Palmeri and Josephine (Felix) Rizzardo, seven grandchildren, Philip (Tracey) Palmeri, David (Shannon) Palmeri, Lisa (Justin) Miller, Samantha Palmeri, Stephen Palmeri, Anthony (Jessica) Rizzardo and Nicholas Rizzardo, four great-grandchildren, Bryson Miller, Jacob Miller, Marlee Rizzardo and Stella Jean Palmeri, one sister, Jennie (late Mike) Notte and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Antoinette 'Nina' (late Pat) Surace, Rose (late Louis) Oppedisano, Ann (late Bill) (late Frank) Cerra and one brother, James (late Matilda) Palmeri.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 31
