Obituary

Stephen E. Pellegrino, 74 of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Thursday May 26, 2011 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport NY after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on June 7, 1936 in Boston, MA and was the son of the late Stephen and Sarah (Wien) Pellegrino. Stephen was survived by his granddaughter Michele Calabro-Busenlehner (David), Tiffany Pellegrino, and his great granddaughter Sahara Busenlehner. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Taylor) Pellegrino on November 17, 2003, after 24 years of marriage.


Stephen grew up in the South end of Boston, MA, and attended local schools. He graduated from Boston English High school in 1954, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the United States Marine Corps from June 1954 until October 1961, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal of the 8th Engineer Battalion. He then graduated from Fisher College in Boston, with a degree in Business Management.

Stephen retired from Sysco Cash and Carry in 2002. After retiring he worked part time at Wendy's restaurant on Porter Road until 2009. Stephen enjoyed watching sports, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriot's, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins. He was a member of the John Duke Senior Center on Hyde Park Blvd, where he frequently played pinochle, and enjoyed watching Western movies, AMC channel and Gene Autry, "the singing Cowboy". He also enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, comic books. He enjoyed talking with the Junior Marine Corps, and sharing his stories of when he was in the Marines. Stephen enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Stephen is survived by his children, Donna O'Neil, of Somerville MA, Stephen (Cheryle) Pellegrino of Niagara Falls NY, and was predeceased by a son Michael Pellegrino. Stephen is also survived by his stepchildren James Smith of Newport NH, Michele (Edward) Craig of Merimac MA, Anya ( Richard ) Maynard of Manchester, NH, and was predeceased by his stepdaughter Donna Cram. He is also survived by his sister Mary (James) Kimball, his brother Joseph (Susan) Pellegrino and was predeceased by his sister Rose Pellegrino, and brother Samuel Pellegrino. Stephen is survived by 15 grandchildren, James Rogers, Crystal Rogers, Aislinn Costello, Michele Calabro- Busenlehner, Kristin Maynard, Jennifer O'Neil, Brandon O'Neil, Alisha Maynard, Collette Maynard, Phillip Loreino, Justina Loreino, Tiffany Pellegrino, Marissa Smith, Savannah Smith, James Smith, 9 great-grandchildren and a few "adopted" grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 1st from 5 – 9 p.m., at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 11:00 AM on Thursday June 2nd at United Baptist Christian Church, 4800 Creek Road Lewiston, NY with Rev. Bette Bond officiating. In lieu of flowers; donations may be made to Niagara Youth Marine Cadets, Inc. 9750 Niagara Falls Blvd. Niagara Falls, NY 14304 or Niagara Hospice House, 4675 Sunset Dr. Lockport, NY 14094 will be greatly appreciated.
