Obituary

Sue Noubarian, a 40-year resident of Lewiston, New York, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on Sunday, October 18 at Northgate Health Care Center, North Tonawanda, NY.  She was a 25-year resident of "Historical Square" apartments in the village of Lewiston.

Sue, the daughter of Khoren and Hripseme Apigian, was born in Niagara Falls on September 11,1924. Iskoohi, her given name, was brought up in the tenement buildings of East Falls Street with other first-generation Armenian immigrant families.

Sue attended 13th Street Elementary where she became "Susie" at the behest of her teacher; South Junior High School, and Niagara Falls High School graduating with honors in 1943.

During WWII she was employed by the Carborundum Company and the International Paper Company. In 1947, she married Arthur Noubarian of Brantford, Ontario, Canada, where they settled with their first son Gary, born in 1948. In 1952, the couple relocated to Niagara Falls, New York where her son Brian was born in 1956, and then to the Town of Lewiston in 1960.

Arthur was a prominent auto salesman and musician who in died suddenly in 1973 while performing. A few years thereafter, Sue became employed by Coutts Library Services where she remained for 25 years, retiring at the age of 76.

Sue was an unassuming woman brought up with a strong sense of family instilled by her immigrant parents. She was an exceedingly kind, loyal and giving person and loved by everyone that ever knew her.

She is survived by her two sons, Gary of Frederick, MD and Brian (Jennifer) and his two children, Jeffrey and Nicole, of Santa Ana CA. Also, her younger brother Ned (Aroxie) Apigian of Dearborn Heights MI and his daughter Heather (Ara) Krafian of Belmont, MA, and her four daughters.

Sue also has two nieces, the daughters of her late sister Clara (Norman) Mooradian of Atlanta, Georgia, who died in 2010. They are Susan (Chuck) Maisano and her two daughters, and Karen (Chris) Reed, and her daughter, all of Atlanta GA.

Sue will be cremated. A memorial service will be held sometime in 2021, with the internment of her ashes in the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery. At the request of her sons, those wishing to honor her memory are asked to donate to the Armenia Fund (Armeniafund.org).
