Teresa C. (Kalinoski) Gillis, 84 of North Tonawanda, NY passed away on Friday November 15, 2013. Born in Johnsonburg, PA she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Martha Kalinoski. Teresa was raised and educated in Pennsylvania. She served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and afterwards continued to serve in the US Army Reserves. In 1954, she married Joseph F. Gillis, and together they moved to the Niagara Falls area. Mr. Gillis predeceased her on October 1, 1975. For a brief time, Teresa took great pleasure in working for the City of Niagara Falls Board of Education as a reading aid at the 95th Street School. In 1977, she began a career with the Federal Government as a budget technician at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base until her retirement in 2001.
Teresa was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls, as well as a member of their Altar and Rosary Society. She was an avid scrabble player and especially enjoyed playing with her son Richard. She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, cooking, sewing, and was an accomplished seamstress.
Mrs. Gillis is survived by her two sons, Raymond J. (Pamela) Gillis of the Town of Niagara, NY and Richard F. Gillis of Lexington, MD, and was predeceased by a daughter Martha Ann Gillis. She was predeceased by five siblings and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior visitation. Services and burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY will be held at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial offerings in memory of Mrs. Gillis may be made to the Salvation Army 7018 Buffalo Ave. Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Arrangements by M.J.
