Theresa (Santoro) Gruarin, 94, passed away on Wednesday May 19, 2010 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born and raised in Welland, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Domenica (LoStracco) Santoro.
Theresa was employed as a supervisor at the Cotton Mill in Welland. She married Gino Gruarin on February 29, 1939 in St. Mary's Church in Welland, and together moved to the Niagara Falls, NY area in January 1950. Mr. Gruarin predeceased her on June 25, 1997. Theresa was a longtime active member of St. Teresa's Parish in Niagara Falls. She was also actively involved in St. Teresa's School functions during the time her children and later grandchildren attended. Theresa's true devotion and passion in life was being a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking and caring for her family. Theresa also found great pleasure in visiting with her neighbors.
Mrs. Gruarin is survived by her three daughters, Gloria (Randy) Horhutz of Mayfield, PA, Lorraine (Larry LeBlanc) Garcia of North Tonawanda, NY, Dr. Beverly Gruarin of Pittsburgh, PA, and was predeceased by one son Frank Gruarin. She was an integral part in the lives of her grandsons, Michael (Monica) Garcia and Kevin Garcia who she helped raise, and is also survived by her granddaughter Lori Gruarin and grandson David Gruarin, two sisters, Florence (late George) Domitrek of Welland, Ontario, Louise (James) Adams of Toronto, Ontario, her devoted aide and caregiver Judy Lindahl, beloved dog Coby and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Rose (late Dominic) Centofanti, Lillian (late Daniel) Gruppo, Anne (late Martin) Bertoni, Celia (late Leo) Borgatti, and one brother Raymond (late Creole) Santoro.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Saturday May 22nd at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Raphael's Parish 3840 Macklem Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Ivan Skenderovic officiating. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY.
