Obituary

Thomas J. Amantia, Jr. 57 of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 30, 2017 at Niagara Hospice House after a courageous battle with stage four glioblastoma brain cancer.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Virginia (DiJoseph) Amantia and late Thomas J. Amantia, Sr.

Thomas was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls.  He attended local schools including St. Joseph's School, and graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 1978.  Following high school, he attended Niagara County Community College, Niagara University, and Buffalo State College where he earned his Master's Degree in Education.  On May 2, 1992, he married Diane L. (Doricko) Amantia at St. Charles Borromeo Church.  During his teenage years, Tom worked at DeFranco Hardware in Niagara Falls.  He went on to work at Carborundum Company, Azerty Inc., Ingram Micro, and most recently as a home school tutor, specializing in math for, Orleans-Niagara BOCES.  For many years, Tom also worked as a bartender for weddings and banquets at the Holiday Inn Grand Island, NY.

Thomas was an all-around handyman.  He enjoyed home improvement projects and was the first to help anyone in need.  Thomas was the proud owner and operator of, Screenfix, a window screen repair business.  He also had a love for chopping and splitting wood, and was a fan of, boxing, basketball, football and collecting authentic Super Bowl programs.  Above all, Thomas will be remembered for his contagious smile, love for socializing with family and friends, and devotion to his wife and daughters.

In addition to his wife of 24 years and mother, Thomas is survived by his two daughters, Ashley M. Amantia and Alexandra V. Amantia.  He was the brother of, Staria (Dale) Schuppenhauer, son-in-law of, Marie V. (late Paul) Doricko, brother-in-law of, Elaine M. (late David A.) Booth and Paul M. (Patricia) Doricko, uncle of, Andrew and Pauly Doricko, Dale, Kyle and Seth Schuppenhauer.  He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 3 - 8 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Riverlife Chapel 3474 Creek Road Youngstown, with Pastor John Woodhouse officiating.  EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
