IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Anthony
Baia
November 19, 2024
Thomas Anthony Baia, 88, of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully at O.L.P. Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas James and Catherine (Amendola) Baia. Tom graduated from Niagara Falls High School and honorably served in the United States Air Force, a testament to his lifelong dedication to service and duty. On June 11, 1967, he married Elaine Roxanne (Sorour) at St. George's Church, beginning a 54-year marriage built on love, faith, and mutual respect until her passing in 2021. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Tom was more than just a respected automotive dealer; he was a pillar of his community. He owned and operated Baia Pontiac for many years, earning a reputation for integrity, honesty, and exceptional service. Tom was deeply involved in local organizations, serving as a Lifetime Member of the Kiwanis Club in Lewiston since 1968, where he was honored to serve as president twice. Co-Founded the Kiwanis Fun Run which still exist today and played significant roles in the successful annual Lewiston Peach Festival. He also served as the Key Club advisor mentoring the next generation of young leaders at Lewiston Porter High School for over 30 years which many of those students kept up with Tom throughout the years.
His leadership and civic involvement extended beyond the club. Tom served 3 -4 year elected terms as a Town of Porter Councilman. He also served 2 -4 year elected terms as a member of the Lewiston-Porter School Board. His devotion to public service earned him the distinction in 2015 as the Town of Porter Citizen of the Year. Whether it was through his volunteer work, charitable contributions, or everyday acts of kindness, Tom sought to make our community a better place for everyone.
His unassuming influence was very well known in the community. Everybody knew Tommy. He was an empathetic man who valued character over pedigree hence the reason why so many were inspired and loved him from all backgrounds. His impact was profound, and his presence will be dearly missed by those whose lives he touched.
Tom is survived by his two sons, Thomas 'TJ' (Lura) Baia and Joey Baia, as well as three grandsons, Thomas Anthony, Mickey, and Patrick Baia, all of whom he adored. He is also survived by many cousins and a wide circle of friends who will miss his warmth, generosity, and infectious enthusiasm for life.
Mr. Baia's family will be present on Saturday, November 23 from 10 – 11 AM at St. Bernard's Church, 218 Hinman Street, Youngstown, NY 14174, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM.
