Thomas D. Salfi, 91 of Lewiston, NY passed away on August 14, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at his residence under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on March 27, 1926, he was the son of the late Francesco 'Frank' and Rose (Marshall) Salfi.
Mr. Salfi was raised in Niagara Falls and attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1944. Tom served in the US Army in Germany during World War II, from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On June 21, 1947, Tom married Marilyn Jane (Szczerbacki) Salfi at Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He was employed for 45 years as a Distribution Manager and in Labor Relations for Nabisco Shredded Wheat Company, retiring in 1986. Tom was a member of the Nabisco Retiree Breakfast Club, as well as the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, he enjoyed to cook, and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, Tom is survived by his children, Robert K. (Suzanne) Salfi, Thomas F. (Maureen) Salfi, Carol A. (Martin J.) Palumbo, and Cynthia J. (Paul A.) Richardson; his grandchildren, Jason S. (Kadie) Salfi, Brenna (Christopher) DeSimone, Justin M. (Sarah) Palumbo, Alex T. (Jolanne) Palumbo, Nicholas C. Richardson, Meghan J. Richardson, and Sean P. Richardson; three great grandchildren, Lucia Georgette Salfi, Antonella DeSimone, and Aurelio DeSimone and, one sister, Kay (late Frank) Deni, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Salfi was predeceased by one grandchild, Matthew J. Salfi, one brother, Anthony Salfi, one sister, Josephine Salfi, and his beloved Irish Setter, Cindy's Sweet Sioux 'Suzzi'.
There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 18 th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 218 Hinman St, Youngstown, NY with Msgr. David LiPuma officiating. EVERYONE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY with Military Honors. Memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, N.Y. 14094. Arrangements by M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY.
