Obituary
Tony C. Basile, 77, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Galeton, PA he was the son of the late Teofiolo and Palma (Gialloretto) Basile.
Tony served in the U.S. Airforce, the 107th Air National Guard and was honorably discharged on January 14, 1969. He began working at the former A & P Grocery Store in Niagara Falls, NY and later along with his parents, his brother, Tom and sister, Grace, owned and operated the Basiles Motel, Fallsway Motel and Thruway Inn from 1954 until 1988. Following that he worked in sales and later in maintenance supervision at Gray Line Bus Tours also in Niagara Falls.
Tony was an avid hunter and sportsman. He loved being in the woods with his bow and arrows or rifle and looking for that prize buck. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time outdoors. Whether he was cutting the grass, washing the car or cleaning the pool, Tony's hands were always busy with some activity. Tony loved helping his friends and neighbors and spending time with his family, particularly his eight grandchildren. He enjoyed music, especially country music, and could play many instruments by ear. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the NRA.
Tony is survived by his wife Elaine J. (DiGregorio) Basile; four children Marcia (Marc) Warren, Diana (Joseph) Lamoreux, Gina Basile and Toni (Paul) Canfield; three sisters Mary (late Alex) Fabrizio, Teresa 'Daisy' Mistretta and Helen (late David) Frisoni and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers Joseph 'Pep' (late Elvira) Basile, Camillo 'Tom' (late Cecilia) Basile and one sister Grace Basile.
There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 10th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY with Msgr. David LiPuma officiating. Please assemble at church. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Niagara Hospice 4675 Sunset Dr. Lockport, NY 14094 or American Red Cross, 2079 Sawyer Drive, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Arrangements by M.J.
