Victor Muto, of Lewiston, NY, passed away in the presence of his family, June 24, 2020. Born December 16, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Alfonso Muto and Gemma (Lia) Muto. Victor was raised in Clairton, PA, where he graduated from Clairton High School and enlisted into the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1947. He attended Penn State University to study Chemistry and his education then led him to a job with the Dupont Chemical Company in 1950, for which he worked for 35 years.
Victor married the love of his life, Rose (Gara) on July 30, 1948. They lived in Niagara Falls for 50 years before moving to Lewiston until present day. Together they raised 8 children who have blessed them with 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Victor was a devoted husband and father of eight children. So in order to provide for the growing family he worked full time in the Test lab at Dupont, and work part time at Tops Markets and other grocery stores, using the skills he gained working with his father as a produce huckster. Then in the early 70's he was able to purchase the New York Fish Market and for 30 years he ran the family business until retiring and turning it over to his sons. During his retirement he was the manager of the farmer's market located in the Niagara Falls City Market, where he worked closely with the farmers and established many great friendships.
Victor enjoyed going to OTB and handicapping the horses. Above all, Victor's greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family. From sharing stories with his kids about growing up in Pennsylvania to having a spitball war across the table with one of his great-granddaughters. During family parties he would sit quietly and watch the 60 plus members of his family until the moment he would stand and declare how proud he and his wife Rose were to watch the love and joy that his family had for each other. His personality was so large that once you met him, you would not forget him. He will not only be greatly missed by his family, but a community that he lived in, worked in, and gave support to for many years.
In addition to his wife of 71 years, Mr. Muto is survived by his daughters, Jean (John) Stirling, and Diane (Gary) Bevilacqua; sons Victor (Judy) Muto, Richard (Mary Falsetti) Muto, Alfonse (Rosanne) Muto, Dominick (Lucy) Muto, Vincent (Christine) Muto all of Lewiston and Michael (Kimberly Moran) Muto from Williamsville; his beloved grandchildren, Michelle (Jeremy) Corrente, John (Kimberly) Stirling, Victor (Krissy) Muto, Laura (Shaun) Bielec, Alfonse (Luciana) Muto, Gina (Michael) Cournyea, Sarah (John) Sarich, Toni (Scott) Bielec, Richard Muto, Nicole Thomson, Dominick Muto, James Thomsom, Angela Muto, Vincent Muto, Rosie Muto, Lindsay Muto and Tori Muto; 18 cherished great-grandchildren; his loving sister Aurora (late Joseph) Etopio of Youngstown; one brother Alfonse Muto of Phoenix, Arizona, and his brother-in-law, Anthony (late Dorothy) Gara of Niagara Falls, as well as many nieces and nephews.
