Obituary

Victor A. Rippo of Niagara Falls, NY died on Saturday August 31, 2013 at home. He was born in New York City on May 29, 1916, the son of the late Anthony and Pauline (Mascia) Rippo.

Victor graduated from St. John's Law School in New York City in 1949, and came to Niagara Falls in 1950 to start his private law practice. On June 28, 1941 he married Josephine (Faso) Rippo at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He served in the United States Army from 1938 to 1941 and from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. Victor was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Germany in 1945. He served as executive attorney for the Legal Aid Society, and from 1966 to 1976, Victor was the chief public defender for Niagara County until his retirement. Upon retiring as public defender he continued his private practice until the age of 92.

He was a member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club and Niagara Falls Country Club. Victor was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a thirty-five year member of the YMCA, and a member of the Niagara Falls Bar Association. Victor was an avid jogger and golfer, but most importantly enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife of seventy-two years, Josephine, he is survived by a son Anthony (late Patrcia C.) Rippo of Lewiston, NY; a daughter, Julie Rippo of Niagara Falls, NY; three granddaughters, Susan M. Rucci, Victoria A. Rippo, and Nicole Collins; one grandson, James Victor Clayton; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Victor was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Thursday, September 5th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, 3840 Macklem Avenue (at College), Niagara Falls, NY with the Rev. Ivan Skenderovic, officiating. Entombment will follow with Military honors at St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Raphael Church or St. Mary's Hospital, 5300 Military Rd, Lewiston, NY 14092.
