Former Niagara Falls Mayor
Vincenzo "Vince" Anello, 75, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Niagara Hospice House. Born in Palermo (Ciaculli), Sicily, he was the son of the late Filippo and Teresa (Zarcone) Anello; and the beloved husband of Linda (Lutz) Anello.
Vince came to Niagara Falls at the age of 10 and attended 39 th Street School, Gaskill Middle School and Trott Vocational High School. He served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge on July 26, 1972.
Vince was employed as a Master electrician, and was a longtime member of the IBEW #237. He began his successful political career in the mid-1980s when he served as chairman of the Niagara Falls Democratic Party. He also served on the Niagara Falls City council for two terms. On January 1, 2004, he began his four-year term as the Mayor of Niagara Falls.
Following his term as Mayor, Vince continued to stay active in the community and hosted The Vince Anello Show on WBER radio. He was also a longtime member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society, Sertoma Club, the Knights of Columbus #247, as well as the American Legion.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, Mr. Anello is survived by his children, Dana Anello White, Vincenette Anello (Adrian) Adamus; his step-children, Anthony (Bonnie) Soluri, Jr., Tom Soluri and Traci (Eric Abel) Soluri; five grandchildren, Paul Joseph "PJ" White, Mia White, Cameron (Annie Burns) Abel, Haley Abel and Ryan Abel; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Abel; his siblings, Matteo Anello, Salvatore Anello and Rose (Patrick) Cristiano; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 11 from 3 – 8 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Vince's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 12 Noon in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial offerings may be made to the Niagara Falls Firefighters Christmas Toy Fund, P.O. Box 271, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
