Viola 'Voula' (Churakos) Vlahopoulos, 75, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Wednesday December 23, 2009 at Inter Community Memorial Hospital in Newfane, NY. Born in a small village outside of Sparta, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Katina (Thukos) Churakos.
Voula as she was known to family and friends came to Niagara Falls, NY with her family in 1946. She was educated both in Greece and the United States, and on November 17, 1957 married James Vlahopoulos in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. Voula worked at the former Alps Restaurant, her family owned business, the Arterial Steak House, and later the Wedge Coffee Shop all in Niagara Falls, NY. In her leisure time, Voula enjoyed knitting.
In addition to her husband of fifty two years, Mrs. Vlahopoulos is survived by three sons, Gabriel Vlahopoulos of Niagara Falls, NY; Theodore 'Ted' Vlahopoulos of the Town of Lockport, NY, Dino Vlahopoulos of Niagara Falls, NY and was predeceased by one daughter Helen K. Vlahopoulos. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Dino James and Lisa Ann Vlahopoulos and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Voula was also predeceased by two brothers, Peter Churakos and George (Helen of Lewiston, NY) Churakos and two sisters, Tula Janepos and Maria Takis.
Friends may call on Monday from 1 – 3 and 5 – 7 p.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 1073 Saunders Settlement Road, Niagara Falls, NY where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Paul Solberg officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
