Virginia J. (Gugino) Filippelli, 92 of Lewiston, NY passed away on December 31, 2016 at her residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Louise (Como) Gugino, Sr.

Virginia was a lifelong resident of the area and attended local schools. On April 26, 1949, she married Michael C. Filippelli at St. Mary of the Cataract Church. Mr. Filippelli predeceased her on February 18, 2014. Virginia was an exceptional baker, and especially known for her cakes. She baked numerous cakes for weddings and other special occasions and also taught cake baking and decorating classes. Virginia also worked alongside her husband at PT Chemical Co. in Youngstown, NY during his time as plant manager. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and loved to play cards. But most of all, Virginia will be remembered as a mother to everyone, who was loved by all who knew her.

Mrs. Filippelli is survived by her two children, Tina Certo of Clarence Center, NY and James (Jean) Filippelli of Aspers, PA; four grandchildren, Christina (Nicholas) Yeates, Peter Certo, Nicholas (Ciara) Certo and Logan; five great-grandchildren Lilyana "Lily", Cameron, Nicolas "Nico", Connor and Mia; one brother William Gugino of Las Vegas and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Charles (Rita) Gugino, Joseph (Edith) Gugino, Anthony Gugino, Jr., Samuel (Suzanne) Gugino, James (Ernestine) Gugino, Frank Gugino, Rose (Melvin) Walker and Louise (Joseph) Sdao.

Virginia's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her care givers, Judy, Fran and Trish for their dedication and compassionate care.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 – 4:30 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where a funeral service will follow at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Robert Stolinski officiating. Private entombment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
