Virginia C. Silversmith of Niagara Falls NY, age 78, passed away after a short illness on January 29 th 2022. Born in Caledonia, Ontario, Canada she was the daughter of the late Emma (Williams) and Edward Silversmith. Virginia was a member of the Six Nations Reserve Cayuga Turtle Clan.
Virginia is survived by her children, Donald Silversmith, Debora Silversmith, Wendy (Peter) Bensley and Stacy (James) Gizzarelli; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Gerald Silversmith and Winifred Silversmith.
Virginia retired as a geriatric Nurse. Working in the Niagara Falls area for many years. She was also employed at the Native American Centre for the Living Arts as a Baker at the restaurant and a seamstress of native regalia and beadwork for exhibits in the museum. She had continued to use her skills as seamstress and created beadwork for Pow-wow dancers and grandchildren who danced competitively across Canada and United States. She also won many awards for her creative works. She had rescued and fostered many Pug dogs for decades.
She is greatly loved and will be missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pugalug Pug Rescue of Toronto, Ontario, Canada or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel.
