Virginia W. Kachurek, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family while under the compassionate care of Niagara Hospice.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Virginia was the beloved daughter of the late John and Sophie (Mauromilales) Kastanis. She was raised in Brooklyn, where she attended local schools and developed a deep devotion to her Greek Orthodox faith as a member of Three Hierarchs Greek Orthodox Church.

On June 6, 1970, she married the love of her life, Robert Kachurek, whom she met while he was serving in the United States Navy and stationed on Staten Island. Following their marriage, Virginia relocated to Niagara Falls, where she devoted herself to raising their three daughters, Diana, Debra, and Kristen.

Once her children were older and involved in school activities, Virginia became an active participant in their school functions and parent organizations. She later returned to work, first at the Fashion Outlets and devoted many years as an assistant cook with the Niagara Falls Board of Education until her retirement.

Virginia was a faithful member of both St. George Orthodox Church in Niagara Falls and the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Buffalo. Her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.

She found great joy in traveling, cooking, and baking, especially preparing traditional Greek dishes for family and friends. A talented seamstress, she also enjoyed sewing and creating for those she loved. Virginia possessed a spirited personality, a loving heart, and a special talent for keeping her children on the right path with her caring guidance.

Above all, Virginia cherished the time she spent with her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than gathering with her loved ones and creating lasting memories, especially with her treasured grandchildren.

In addition to her beloved husband of 56 years, Robert Kachurek, and their three daughters, Diana Kachurek, Debra Kachurek and Kristen (Curtis) Budney, Virginia is survived by her grandchildren, Tobias Kachurek, Niko Gonzalez, Sophia Gonzalez, Andie Budney and Maron Budney; her sister, Denise (Kenneth) Andolino and her niece and goddaughter, Christina Kenwood.

Family and friends are invited to attend Virginia’s funeral service on Monday, October 5 at 11:00 AM at St. George Orthodox Church, 1073 Saunders Settlement Rd, Niagara Falls, NY 14305. Interment will follow privately in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial offerings in Virginia’s name may be made to Niagara Hospice (niagarahospice.org) or St. Jude Children’s Hospital (stjude.org).
