Vito Guy Fortunate, 58, died unexpectedly Friday at his residence in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the second son of the late Guy and Isabelle (Montalbo) Fortunate.
Vito attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1971. He was employed at Meranto's Meat Market in Niagara Falls, NY and later worked as a forklift operator at Great Lakes Carbon, also in Niagara Falls, for over thirty years. Most recently, he was a school bus driver for Niagara Falls Coach Lines, a job which brought him great joy.
He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, but his truest passion was his family and friends. Vito had a heart of gold and would do anything to help others, whether it be plowing your snow, cutting your grass, or simply taking care of any task that would help you. He will be remembered by the many lives he's touched as always being an advocate for the underdog.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of thirty-six years, Jeannine (Finley) Fortunate and his loving daughters Joelle (Major Benjamin Croom, USA) Croom of Fort Belvoir, VA and Jessica Fortunate of Niagara Falls, NY, as well as his cherished grandson Elias Croom. He was a loving brother to Paul (Sophie) Fortunate of Niagara Falls, NY, Guy (Anna) Fortunate of Grand Island, NY and Annmarie (Thomas) Marino of Niagara Falls, NY and brother-in-law of Marie (Finley) (late James) Cozzo of Niagara Falls, NY. He will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dearest friends.
