Walter C. Wygonik, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 in Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. Born in Niagara, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Mickoloi Wygonik and Josephine (Mikolojezyk) Wojdacz; and was the stepson of the late Michael Wojdacz.
Wally, as he was known to family and friends, attended local schools in Alpha, Michigan and graduated from the Porter School in Alpha, Michigan. He served in the United States Army from July 24, 1945 until his honorable discharge on January 27, 1947. Walter later moved to Niagara Falls, NY at age 18 and started working at Kimberly Clark. On May 8, 1954, he married Hilda (DiRuscio) Wygonik at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Hilda predeceased him on March 7, 2007.
Walter was the co-owner of Apex Forms & Concrete and also worked as a Concrete Truck Driver for Empire Concrete Company for 35 years. In his younger years, he was a wood logger with family and friends in Michigan. Walter, as well as his nephew and business partner, Leon Guiliani, owned a farm in Ransomville, NY where he continued as a hobby to cut down trees to produce cords of wood for delivery. In his leisure time, Wally enjoyed deer hunting and going to dinner at his favorite restaurant, The Como Restaurant. Above all, Walter enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Anthony and Alyse.
Walter is survived by his loving daughter, Carol Anne (Paul) Borelli of Grand Island, NY; two grandchildren, Anthony J. Borelli and Alyse Borelli; two sisters, Vicki (late Peter) Guiliani of Rochester, NY and Dorothy (late George) Hutchinson of the Town of Niagara; also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four siblings, Helen (late Julius) Guiliani, Elizabeth Wygonik, Stella (late John) Kollie and Thaddeus (Steffie of Town of Niagara) Wygonik.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30th from 2 – 5 & 7 – 9 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY where funeral services will follow on Wednesday, December 31st at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Church at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Fr. Duane Klizek officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
