William G. Ryan, 96, of Williamsville, NY, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Buffalo V.A. Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late John and Mary (Considine) Ryan.
William served in the U.S. Army with the 45th Infantry Division from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was a front runner in three battles throughout Italy and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal while serving at Enzio Beach in Italy. On June 26, 1948 he married Mary (Morganti) Ryan at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. William was employed at the former Nabisco Shredded Wheats and retired in 1980 after thirty nine years of service. He was a member of the Nabisco Retirement Club. William was an avid hunter and enjoyed tending to his garden. He had a great sense of humor that was appreciated by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his wife of sixty eight years, William is survived by two children Marilyn (Harry) Ryan-Clifton and William Ryan; two grandchildren Lisa Clifton and Paul Clifton, two sisters-in-law Vera (John) MacDonald and Rose Lore as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four siblings Agnes (late Lamont) Pedley, James (late Fannie) Ryan, John Ryan and Catherine Ferguson.
Visitation will be on Saturday, June 11th from 10 – 11:45 a.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY followed by a funeral service at 11:45 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Vincent DePaul at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to V.A.
