Obituary
Winona (Nona/Nonie) M. Hamblin, 99, a long time resident of Niagara Falls, died on Monday, December 1, 2014 in Hospice at Jeanne's House at Northgate Healthcare Facility in North Tonawanda.
Winona was born in Wilson, New York on March 8, 1915, the youngest of three girls of Bert and Nellie (Powers) Ward. She attended a one room school house and graduated from Wilson High School.
Winona married her long time sweetheart, Ronald Hamblin on December 12, 1942 in Niagara Falls, while he was a Sergeant in the US Army; he later worked for the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority for many years. Winona did factory work during World War II before starting a family in 1944. They were married 55 years before Ronald's death in March 1997.
Winona was a frequent volunteer at the old St. Mary's Hospital on 6th Street in Niagara Fall, where she was recognized with an Outstanding Volunteer Award for her years of dedicated service. She enjoyed bowling for years in many Niagara Falls leagues.
As a resident of Northgate Health Care Facility, Winona again became a volunteer. She visited other residents who welcomed her company and a friendly chat. She was a lovely giving person who enjoyed being with others and playing the piano each week for Northgate residents.
Winona is survived by one son, William (Joy) Hamblin of Los Altos, California; two grand daughters, Lisa (Douglas) Isaacson and Jennifer Hamblin; four great grandchildren, Noah and Logan Isaacson, and Emma and Oliver Dougherty, one nephew, Neil (late Marge) Patterson, several great nieces and a great nephew. Winona was predeceased by two sisters, Driscella Brown and Thelma Patterson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4th from 10 – 11:00 A.M. at the M.J COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Rd, Niagara Falls where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be held alongside her husband in North Ridge Cemetery, in the Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Northgate Healthcare Facility, 7264 Nash Road, North Tonawanda, NY 14120.
